L’Étoile de mer
“It is a star that falls into the Mediterranean Sea”: this is the synopsis of Man Ray’s film L’Étoile de Mer, made in 1928. Maya Schweizer’s film is an experimental navigation through the Mediterranean Sea, mixing underwater shots, silent films, personal archives, text and a sound collage. This audiovisual essay works on oblivion and the sea as a point of reference and reflection. The sea is an immaterial, flowing space, and thus conducive to forgetting.
