Cénotaphe

An acoustic device - speakers placed on a beach - replaces the vanished ocean. The sound of the waves that used to be there is broadcast through the speakers and looped, repeated ad infinitum. The sea, digitized and amplified, is no more than a saturated wave, a stream of data, a transmitter signal whose origin has been lost. Cenotaph’s presence activates a kind of space-time short-circuit in the landscape - generated by technology - and reflects a lack, an emptiness, while at the same time duplicating and retaining it.
