Synopsis
C-Trend is a 1974 experimental video artwork created using the Rutt Etra Scan Processor. The piece explores the transformation of video images through electronic manipulation, using footage of passing traffic. The video is divided into two sections: the first distorts the image along horizontal and vertical axes, creating warped and looping effects, while the second focuses on vertical transformations with sharp, angular shifts. The work investigates the nature of image coding and transformation, merging abstract manipulation with real-world urban imagery and sounds. It is a study in the dialogue between artist, tools, and the medium of video itself.
