From its birth in the form of 1s and 0s to its learning of a backflip, this programme follows the journey of an avatar, its discussions, its first loves and revolts, its glitches and disappearances. It’s an opportunity to consider the meaning of their existence: who are they politically? Poetically? What’s the difference between a Facebook profile picture and a GTA IV character?
The Collectif Jeune Cinéma has been invited by the Forum des Images for a screening exploring the links between experimental cinema, the virtual and video games through the figure of the avatar. Through this programme, video game becomes successively inspiration, medium, transgression and even revolt, for filmmakers and spectators alike. The experimental then invests the virtual and its possibilities in order to, as is tradition, divert it in order to better adopt it.
