“We Are Not Ourselves - We Are History Force Fed to Us” is a film program that explores the complexities of an inherited past, questioning the ways history is shaped, remembered, and passed down. Through five distinct films, this eclectic collection offers a unique and transient approach to archives, blending ephemera, emotions, physical gestures, and fleeting moments. Each film invites us to reconsider how we engage with the traces of history—how they haunt, inform, and sometimes distort our sense of self. Together, these works create a kaleidoscopic reflection on the forces that shape our understanding of the past and our place within it.
This film program is in collaboration with the Cairo Video Festival, organized by Medrar for Contemporary Art, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
