A year without What’s Your Flavour? whets the appetite… Your favourite queer canteen reopens its doors this Wednesday 17 June at Commune Image (8 rue Godillot, Saint-Ouen) with a programme that’s crisper than ever!
We can’t promise you a menu that’s easy to digest… But that’s precisely what Wyf is all about: In the face of an image industry that sanitises and poisons, we need to spit out these smooth cultural products that melt under the tongue without ever irritating the palate… Because ‘good taste’ is often just another name for heteronormativity and its overwhelming symbolic capital, we’re defending a more acidic, slobbery cinema, conceived as a space for subversion and the radical reconfiguration of desires.
We offer you a feast prepared from the margins, by and for deviant palates. On the menu are 11 incandescent films divided into two courses: the toxic ruins of 80s Beirut, lesbian love in wartime, sweaty fantasies on Super 8 film, a camp football match pulverised by Godzilla, wild animals reaffirming their deviance… And many other delicacies mapping the bodies and desires that joyfully overflow systems of oppression.
To put it all across, we’re delighted to welcome artist Morgane Baffier, who will round off our screenings with her lecture on love. Appropriating the codes and intellectual authority of the corporate sphere in order to dissect them more effectively, she will put our romantic neuroses to the test of the absurd, before concluding with a very practical manual tutorial for your next kiss.
And above all, come hungry! Slurp! Yum!
