Opening night ✺

Focus #6

Opening act: Queer, Queen Women + Ciné concert La Chasse

Programmed and presented by What’s Your Flavor?

In this opening evening, divided into two parts, we will first pay tribute to women filmmakers who have passed away and who are missed as much as they inspired us by their inventiveness in expressing women, thinking about gender oppression and feminism. Chantal Akerman, Barbara Hammer, Agnès Varda, Maria Klonaris, Claudine Eizykman: we know their names and it is important now that they are never forgotten as were many pioneers of cinema.

La Chasse is a duo composed of A and J. A on drums, J on bass and both on vocals.

Based in Marseille, they have done in 5 years nearly 90 concerts across Europe. Their first LP Noir plus noir que le noir, heir to a handful of cassette or CD EPs, was released in 2017. Their second album is currently being mixed and will be released in early 2020.

Part 2: Our bodies are a mess

Programmed and presented by What’s Your Flavor?

The second time will be dedicated to the celebration of contemporary creation, through a selection of the films programmed by the What’s Your Flavor? collective during its first five years of existence. We launched this call for films with the ambition to present in France, and even to encourage the production of films and videos, combining aesthetic exploration with a questioning of the heteropatriarchal norm, considering images and the world in general from an experience of the margin. This idea seemed all the more powerful to us because it was part of a history of experimental cinema in general and of the Collectif Jeune Cinéma in particular. We received hundreds of films, created partnerships with places and organizations, subtitled and programmed several screenings. The proposal of this opening night gives these bodies a central place, whether they are marginal, in resistance, sexual, in transition, monstrous or fabulous, they are inseparable from the thought and gesture that produces the work. A Festival of Dissident Bodies within the Festival of Different Cinemas. Welcome to all.
